How to play
This game can be played individually or with a group of friends. Give each player a pen or pencil and a copy of the game.
Players will write down as many words as they can make from the letters in the words “Valentine’s Day” (V, A, L, E, N, T, I, N, E, S, D, A, Y). They can only use each letter one time in each word.
Here are a few examples:
- Ant
- Eye
- Vase
If you are playing with a group of people, you can set a timer to make this game more challenging. The person with the most correctly spelled words wins the game or you can use a point system and assign points based on the length of the words, where one letter used equals one point.
You can also set some additional rules, for example:
- The words must be at least 3 letters long.
- Proper nouns are not allowed.
- Plural nouns are not accepted.
How to come up with new words
Creating new words can be tricky, so here are a few tips, that can help you:
- Add one letter. Try to add one letter to an already existing word to form a new one.
- Change one letter. Changing only one letter can create a whole new word.
- Seek out prefixes or suffixes. Try to find common word beginnings or endings to form new words, these could be -a, -re, -be, in-, -un, and -ing, -ed, -ly, -ful.
